Writing/Journalism
Current Writing:
Currently, I’m looking for full-time employment as a communications manager, technical writer or grant writer in professional fields like marketing, advertising or non-profit. Recently completed the Certification for Professional Technical Writing via the U of Washington. Over a decade of experience with SEO, copywriting, social media management and communications.
While searching for full-time employment, I’m working on screenplays. I have a Pilot that’s nearing completion, multiple short films that are done and will start on feature length films after my pilot is where I want it to be. This year I am submitting to screenwriting contests and hoping to connect with more writers/artists and those who have connections to making films.
The Comedy Lab
Before and throughout the pandemic, I took all 4 Core TV writing courses created by SNL alum Michael McCarthy and taken over by Howard Johnson (author and Monty Python alum). The courses include Talk Show Writing, SNL Sketch Writing, Sitcom Spec Script Class and Sitcom Pilot Writing Class.
Past Writing:
Some News
Wrote satirical news stories in the style of The Onion. A fun contract gig that showcased my short-form comedy writing.
Sit Still, Look Opinionated Podcast
I joined the SSLO team during season 3 of their podcast. My duties include writing two-line jokes, sketches, editing and brainstorming in a writer’s room, voice-acting and creating social media content.
The Trident Network
During the pandemic I joined the writer’s room for Wednesday Night Live as a joke writer. Since joining I have been writing sketches to be performed live and online.
LoganSquarist.com
I started writing for LoganSquarist.com in December 2014. This is an online-only local news-site dedicated to Chicago's Logan Square neighborhood. 100% volunteer-based this gig does not pay and lasts for one year. I chose to come on for the year to gain more experience, contacts and to be responsible for deadlines someone else was imposing on me.
ALL of my articles for them can be found at my Staff Bio Page by clicking on this linked text.
While I'm supposed to have the "Lifestyle" beat, I've written fitness, food and arts & entertainment articles.
Monterey County Weekly
In 2010 I interned at Monterey's free weekly paper and was invited back to freelance by periodically pitching articles, producing content for their special annual publications and contributing every week to the paper's calendar section. Although I'm living in Chicago, I am able to remotely contribute to the paper's calendar every week where I "hype" one or two events in Monterey County.
While I was living in the county, I wrote a wide range of stories. There is no easy way to find all of my articles in one place on the MC Weekly website, so here are a few selections that I enjoyed writing (text next to bullet points links to stories):
Screening of the finale of the Big Sur International Short Film Screening Series (Aug 2012)
Selected Shorts comes to Carmel hosted by the late Isaiah Sheffer (Mar 2012)
Freelance and Contract Work
Back in college for four years I was a writer/editor for Russian Sunbirds. I had the opportunity to travel to Russia for the better part of a year to travel around the country and live in Moscow.
